The funeral of veteran politician and Awami League lawmaker Suranjit Sengupta will be held at his ancestral home in Dirai upazila of Sunamganj on Monday.
Obaidul Quader, Minister of Road Transport and Bridges and General Secretary of the Awami Legaue, confirmed the matter to the reporters.
Different political parties including Awami League paid their rich tributes by placing wreaths to the body of the veteran political leader around 12am on Sunday at Dhakeshwari temple in the capital.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and among others have paid their respects to the body of the veteran politician.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mourned his death expressing their deep shock at his demise.
It is mentionable that, Suranjit Sengupta died at Labaid hospital in Dhaka early today after prolonged illness.
He was the AL lawmaker from Sunamganj-2 constituency and a member of the party’s advisory council. Also, he was the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the law, justice and parliamentary affairs ministry.
