Sri Lanka take the charge in first session of Day-3

Visiting Bangladesh showed lack of purpose in the field from the beginning of the third day of first Test against Sri Lanka, losing flurry of wickets in the morning session. At lunch of day three at the Galle International Stadium, the home team has clearly taken the authority in the game. Bangladesh scored 213 runs losing 6 wickets at lunch.

The Tigers are going to start the second session trailing by 281 runs with 4 wickets in hand. The collapse started when overnight set opener Soumya Sarkar could not manage to play the shot off Lakmal who tried hard to get the breakthrough. The short ball edged thick on Soumya’s bat. At fine leg, Lahiru Kumara did not miss the easy chance. Soumya added 5 runs more with his overnight total, departing at 71 runs of 137 deliveries.

Hopes were restored upon Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim’s partnership, and were broken within no time to spare. Shakib seemed solid in his approach, left arm unorthodox spinner Lakshman Sandakan’s wrong delivery nudged Shakib’s bat to restore in the safe hands of Dickwella after some seven overs of departure of Soumya. Shakib’s 23 came from 19 with a single boundary and an over boundary.

Mahmudullah Riyad (8 off 26 balls) joined with Mushfiqur Rahim in the scene, added 14 runs in the fifth wicket partnership before pacer Lahiru Kumara shattered his stumps.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Kumar Das was the last man to fall before lunch. Skipper Herath removed Litton at the score 5 (13 balls). Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim are unbeaten scoring 11 and 22 runs respectively.
