Make room for honest people in politics: Quader to party men

Dhaka: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday urged the party men to make room for honest and competent people in politics fearing that the political arena was failing to create ground to attract people with integrity.

‘We want to make politics attractive to the people. We want to make room for honest, able and meritorious persons in politics,’ he told a function staged to mark 29th founding anniversary of Sheikh Russell Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad at Engineers Institution (IEB) auditorium, reports BSS.

He added that Bangladesh’s politics must attract good people to fill the vacuum largely caused by lack of honesty in politics.

‘If good people avoid politics, bad elements will occupy the stage and become parliament members and ministers . . . they will run the country which will not be good for the nation,’ Quader said.

The Awami League general secretary requested the students, who were the main audience of the function, to go through Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s ‘The Unfinished Memoirs’ to take a guideline to be good and honest men.

Awami League Advisory Council member Mozaffar Hossain Paltu also joined the function with Sheikh Russell Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad President Rakibur Rahman in the chair.
